Casement windows are hinged on either the left or right side and open outwards (similar to the operation of a hinged door). A major advantage with casement windows is that they provide great ventilation directing airflow into the home and seal well from outside weather conditions. They can also be used in bow or bay windows.

Whether you’re replicating period windows or looking for windows for your contemporary home or renovation, you can rely on Whetstone for a stunning selection of casement windows.

Wooden Casement Windows

Benefits of casement windows.

  • Perfect for increased ventilation – Their wide opening angles ensure maximum airflow so fit them on the south side of the house to catch cool breezes in the summer. If you have windows situated directly across from each other or even up to a 90-degree angle, then use casement windows for cross ventilation to improve air quality and energy efficiency.
  • Maximise energy efficiency – Casement windows can be double glazed with or without Low E coating to maximise energy efficiency.
  • Optimal temperature regulation – The opening sashes seal very tightly against the surrounding window frame for minimum air leakage, keeping your home warm in winter and cool in summer. They are also completely watertight when closed.
  • Easy to use and maintain – Casement windows are easy to open and close, and keep clean.

Hardware for Casement Windows

As Casement Windows are used extensively in both contemporary and traditional architecture, there is a broad range of hardware and finishes available.

For a more modern look, the timber casement windows can be opend and closed by a single or dual-arm operator. These operators open and close with incredible ease and allow the window to open up to 90°. The handle flips fully in and recesses into the cover to give a streamlined and contemporary appeal.

For a more traditional look, you have the option of using a casement stay with or without a teardrop fastener. A casement stay doesn’t have a wind-out function, the window is manually opened and closed and fastened when the desired opening is reached. The range of the opening depends on the length and position of the casement stay. They can be mounted at the side of the window or at the base of the window. There is also a wide range of fasteners available in various traditional finishes.
